“Unsung Hero” tells the story of the Australian family that risked it all, yet grew not one, but two Grammy Award-winning artists:

Rebecca St. James and for KING + COUNTRY.

Based on a remarkable true story, Unsung Hero follows David Smallbone as he moves his family from down under to the United States, searching for a brighter future after his successful music company collapses. With their six children and nothing more than suitcases, and their love of music, David (for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone) and his pregnant wife Helen (Daisy Betts) set out to rebuild their lives. Helen’s faith stands against all odds and inspires her husband and children to hold onto theirs. With their own dreams on hold, David and Helen begin to realise the musical prowess in their children, who would go on to become two of the most successful acts in Inspirational Music history: five-time GRAMMY Award®-winning artists for KING + COUNTRY and Rebecca St. James

Joel Smallbone

Joel Smallbone is an Australian actor and one-half of the 4-time GRAMMY award-winning pop duo for KING + COUNTRY with his brother Luke. They have generated over 2 Billion streams, 10 GMA Awards, 1 Billboard Music Award, and 1 American Music Award, as well as performances on Good Morning America, The View, The Today Show, The Tonight Show, and CMT Crossroads. Joel has been a part of several films, landing his first acting role alongside Billy Ray Cyrus in 2014 in the Nashville-based film Like a Country Song, followed by the 2016 independent film Priceless, which he co-wrote and played the lead role and the forthcoming 2023 film Journey to Bethlehem opposite Antonio Banderas. Recently, he co-wrote, co-directed, and starred in a feature film set to release on May 30, 2024, titled Unsung Hero, a story about his family’s immigration to America.

Luke Smallbone

Luke Smallbone is an Australian actor and one-half of the 4-time GRAMMY award-winning pop duo for KING + COUNTRY with his brother Joel. Luke executive produced the 2016 independent film Priceless. Recently, he executive produced a feature film set to release on May 30, 2024, titled Unsung Hero, a story about his family’s immigration to America.

Rebecca St. James

Among the most defining artists in Christian music history, GRAMMY®-winning singer/songwriter, best-selling author, speaker, and actress Rebecca St. James catapulted into the global spotlight following the release of her self-titled Forefront Records debut in 1994. The Australian native’s modern pop sensibilities and uncompromising lyrics set a benchmark in Christian music, leading a new generation of artistry in the genre.

St. James has earned multiple Dove Awards, nine #1 Christian radio singles, and two GOLD®-certified recordings, and her discography includes such iconic albums as Pray, God and Transform. Author of the best-selling titles Wait For Me (Thomas Nelson) and Pure (Hachette/Faithwords), among others, she starred in the 2009 film Sarah’s Choice; portrayed Mary Magdalene in the groundbreaking rock opera, !Hero; and voiced ‘Hope, The Angel’ in VeggieTales’ best-selling The Easter Carol, in addition to other diverse roles.

Following a hiatus from recording and touring—during which time she married and started a family—St. James returned to the stage in 2018 to perform with her brothers, multi-GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning duo for KING & COUNTRY, and co-wrote several selections on their blockbuster 2019 recording, Burn the Ships.

St. James recently partnered with AccessMore to host a podcast, “Rebecca St James: Friends and Family”, and released her full-length album “Kingdom Come” with Bethel Music.

Helen Smallbone

Helen Smallbone grew up in Australia as the daughter of a Methodist minister and the youngest of four children. Even though she grew up in church, her faith became real in her mid-teens when she committed her life to Christ at a Billy Graham Crusade in Sydney. Trained as an Occupational Therapist, Helen’s greatest desire was to serve God and become a wife and mother. At age 20, she married the love of her life, David Smallbone, and over the next 14 years, they added seven children to their family.

In 1991, after experiencing a financial crisis in Australia, the Smallbone family relocated to the Nashville, TN, area, where David began a career in music management for Christian artists. This new adventure required every family member to place their trust in God and live by faith.

Helen’s love for God and family has only grown stronger as she and David have supported their children’s creative career paths. Their daughter, Rebecca St. James, and two of their sons, for KING & COUNTRY stars Luke and Joel Smallbone, have collectively earned five Grammys.

When not busy with her children and grandchildren, Helen is dedicated to sharing her passion and love for God with those around her. She is the co-founder of MUMlife, (www.MUMlife.org), a ministry of “mothers uplifting mothers,” and co-host of the MUMlife Community Podcast. David and Helen Smallbone live just outside of Nashville with a small menagerie of animals.

Candace Cameron Bure

In addition to being an actress, producer, director, and New York Times bestselling author, Candace Cameron Bure is an entrepreneur whose brand extends from entertainment and lifestyle, to faith and family. Bure is the CEO of Candy Rock Enterprises; head of her own self-titled clothing and lifestyle brands; a prolific author and co-owner of Bure Family Wines. Bure is known for holiday romantic comedies where she is a perennial fan favorite, having starred in dozens of movies created in close partnership with Abbott. Bure starred in and executive produced one of television's most successful mystery movie franchises, “Aurora Teagarden.” She competed on Dancing with the Stars in 2014 and was co-host of The View in 2015 and 2016. Fans first came to know Candace as D.J. Tanner in “Full House.” In 2016, Bure and her “Full House” co-stars reunited to create 75 episodes of “Fuller House.” Bure is currently Great American Media’s CCO (Chief Creative Officer) where she creates original content for Great American Family and Great American Faith & Living. Candace is an executive producer on and plays the role of ‘Kay Albright’ in the upcoming Lionsgate film UNSUNG HERO (in cinemas May 30).
